Culture eats strategy for breakfast ~ Peter Drucker
People are essential in any organisation achieving its goals. Staff development is a key part of building organisational culture and essential in any organisation that wants to retain quality staff and remain competitive in a digitally disrupted environment. Traditional ideas of training are no longer sufficient; organisations need a multi-pronged approach that includes formal training (both in person and online) and informal opportunities for community building around areas of staff learning and development. From my first serious job (the last of my #firstsevenjobs) as an Army Officer, where I planned and delivered staff development programs including team building, skills training, physical training, coaching and career development for my soldiers to my current position where I planned and implemented a unique Learning & Teaching Staff Development Plan for the QUT Law school, I have had extensive experience bringing effective learning to workplaces and organisations, making them more effective and building their culture from within.
