Whilst working with an industry partner to define a potential research project and create the resources needed to convince an international Vice President of the company to commit to the deal I identified that they had not fully grasped to need for two of the three stages of the project. I listened to our partner’s team members, identified their pain points and what would help them to see value in stages two and three of the project and quickly created a hand drawn diagram to communicate the process, outputs and consequent value to partner organisation of the later stages.
We were asked to update and turn around the project documentation the same afternoon so it could be sent to the decision maker within our industry partner, so a simple photo of my hand drawn diagram was embedded into the existing project documentation prepared by Dr. Kate Devitt.
A short time later we were excited to hear that the international Vice President of our industry partner had moved from tentatively agreeing to stage one of the project which was costed at US$50k and equivalent in kind over six months to approving the full project, which includes approximately USD$150k cash and equivalent in kind investment over an 18 month period.
Hence, the USD$100k Sketch.
- Project Leader: Dr. Kate Devitt
- Lead Designer: Tamara Pearce
- Project Outcome: Industry research partner extended their planned engagement from 6mths to 18mths, achieving an increase in research investment of approximately USD$100k
