A highly skilled, flexible, enthusiastic and innovative professional with experience in industry, education and government settings. I have a passion for transforming business models and processes; effective use of technology and innovative pedagogy in connected/collaborative learning environments; and cognitive, educative UX/interface design for information systems.
Designer, Author, Educator…Creator of Random Awesomeness
Tamara has skills in eLearning and Curriculum and Program Design which I would describe as ‘cutting edge’. At a time when our Faculty is undergoing paradigmatic change and redevelopment in response to a rapidly evolving market and associated digital disruption, we were fortunate indeed to find a professional of Tamara’s quality to take a leadership role in managing that change. She possesses a unique blend of technical skill and acumen, creative problem solving ability and a maturity of interpersonal communication, which is rarely found in my long experience in the higher education sector. You will see from her CV that she has an impressive range of experience and skill, but what has made her the most valuable in her current role, is her intuitive sense for matching the optimal learning and design environments for particular tasks and groups.
Tamara has been absolutely central to the creation, testing and refining of eLearning curricula across the Faculty. She has designed and delivered a large number of training programs for staff with a very wide range of technical ability – from enthusiastic early adopters to the reluctant, sceptical and inexperienced. She has succeeded in this, I my view, by combining absolute technical mastery of the processes and products she teaches, with an intimate knowledge of adult learning styles. She can anticipate likely roadblocks and has a set of well thought out strategies for navigating them. This woman is a bundle of creative, infectious energy who seems to be able to very quickly assess the curriculum and teaching needs of a wide range of academics and programs – and never gives up. To see her convert professors of quite mature age, with virtually no experience with blended learning, into confident producers of digital content has been remarkable and rewarding.
I have worked closely with Tamara on a number of critical projects, in a range of environments and can attest that even under significant pressure, she has an equanimity of temperament, work ethic and talent for time management which would make her an asset to any organisation. She is an intelligent and confident leader and her personal integrity is beyond reproach.
Tamara operates as a Learning Designer in a unique way. She is incredibly flexible and adaptable and responds quickly to accommodate the needs of academics; including when there is a need to troubleshoot. Her teaching background has proven invaluable as from an academic’s perspective it is obvious that her recommendations and perspectives are supported by a sophisticated understanding of effective pedagogical practices.
Tamara has an ability to communicate technical concepts in a manner that academics can easily understand. Combined with her patience this skill has made my role as a unit coordinator so much easier. Her support has enabled me to deliver better learning resources for my students. In particular Tamara redesigned the Corporate Law unit’s blackboard site, and provided me with one-on-one training so that I could develop the skills necessary to set up this new format for future unit offerings. Tamara’s approach has inspired me to continue to develop new online learning and teaching initiatives with confidence. Her presence within the Law School is invaluable as I know that I have the expert assistance necessary to make the investment of my time in creating online resources worthwhile for my students.
Tamara provided great assistance to me with the design and development of a new undergraduate unit on Public International Law. She encouraged me to explore new pedagogical approaches in my teaching, including problem-based learning and adaptive learning. Tamara’s advice was extremely helpful in conceptualising the overall design of the unit and devising appropriate teaching delivery strategies. Tamara also encouraged me to use new a range of online tools and software in the design and delivery of my new unit, particularly Articulate Storyline 2.0, which I have used to deliver online content to students in the unit. Her support was invaluable as I came to grips with these new skills, and she was always willing to answer questions or trouble-shoot problems throughout the development process. Tamara is a pleasure to work with, and the cheerful manner in which she assists people of all skill levels is greatly appreciated by her colleagues.
Tamara has provided invaluable support to me as a new academic to my institution. She has helped me navigate the complexities of setting up Blackboard sites for my units and has provided amazing design assistance in making these sites more visually engaging and intuitive for students. Tamara has always been extremely proactive in offering support and training to staff. She is fantastic to work with – approachable, friendly and extremely clear in her explanations of technology systems and design (she clearly knows her stuff!). I can honestly say that I would have been quite lost without Tamara’s help in my early days at QUT. I would absolutely recommend Tamara to anyone who wants to learn more about using educational technologies in their field.
